Today it was nice outside so I thought that it would be a good opportunity to spray varnish the panels for Stars are the Diamonds of the Poor. I had been meaning to do it for past couple of months but its been cold out and I need to open the windows of my studio to let it air out while they dry (I spray them in the stairwell). I was starting to get worried that winter would come and I wouldn’t have the chance to spray them until spring. When I varnish I also like to plan on leaving the studio for a couple of hours so I don’t have to smell it while it’s drying so I often so it in the morning. It is poisonous. I used the Golden Matte UVLS spray varnish from the experiments that I did on my test panel back in October. The matte varnish really mutes the white stars making the whole image very subtle in the end. I would have preferred if it didn’t effect it in that way since the stars are a little harder to see from a distance. It does create beautiful blacks though. If I was to do it all over again I would have sprayed on the black board paint to make the surface a little smoother and eliminate the ripples created by the paint roller.
